The Highland Park Historical Society presents ‘Searching for Gold in Online (and Offline) Archives’ with Nancy Webster, Archivist, on Thursday August 23rd at 7:00 PM at the Highland Park Public Library.

The world wide web and digitization has brought hidden history to the world 24/7.  A Google or other online engine search will bring up many items in Highland Park’s collections.  But, how do you find what you need?  How do you answer a question?  Is everything really on the Internet?

Welcome to the online catalog for the Highland Park Archives and Local History collections at the Highland Park Public Library, which originated with grants from the National Archives. In addition to the collections photos available on this site, Highland Park images can be found on Flickr (https://www.flickr.com/photos/highlandparklibrary/albums) and the Illinois Digital Archives (http://www.idaillinois.org/), a service of the Illinois State Library and Illinois Secretary of State.

Highland Park will celebrate its 150th anniversary of incorporation in 2019. There will be a Highland Park History Prize for research-based local history using original sources from this collection. Yet the skills conveyed at this program can be used on other archival resources.

‘Searching for Gold in Online (and Offline) Archives’ will be at Highland Park Public Library Auditorium, 494 Laurel Avenue, Highland Park, Illinois.  For further information, please contact the Highland Park Historical Society: 847.432.7090 or  archives@highlandparkhistory.org.  Admission is free.
