Cook’s Book, Park Ridge School for Girls, 1935

The aim of the school is to provide the homeless girl with a background of care and home life, to give her a school home which merits her price and loyalty and to give her adequate training so that she may eventually become independent.

The 1935 Cook’s Books of Highland Park and Park Ridge are joined at the hip. The Mother source for both books originate with West Ridge Community Club of Highland Park who owns the copyright for the Park Ridge School for Girls edition. While the page layout for the recipes is the same for both: the left page is always advertisements and/or supporters and the right page a list of recipes.  Neither edition offered any indexing beyond chapter titles.  Park Ridge rearranged the order for a few recipe pages, though recipe page format is the same. Where these books do vary substantially are:
– Each book has their own list of advertisers and supporters.
– The colorfully designed die-cut chapter pages are the same format in both books. Chapter tabs are in the Park Ridge Book and not present in the Highland Park.
– They share the same content of recipes with Highland Park’s offering attribution and Park Ridge does not. Uniquely the recipe contributors for Highland Park edition are from a number of communities and states, though only one contributor from Park Ridge.

It is yet unknown who was the link between Highland Park and Park Ridge, though it could be a board member or a former resident of Park Ridge School for Girls who wanted to make a meaningful contribution. Speculation until proven otherwise, though certainly a trail to follow.
