“Visions of Highland Park Past & Present” Exhibition
This June art, photography and memorabilia will be displayed throughout Highland Park’s historical City Hall. The artwork will depict our community’s unique past and present. Artwork from the 19th and 20th Century on loan from The Highland Park Historical Society archives, will be exhibited with juried artwork from present day North Shore artists,’ visions of Highland Park. This exhibit honors the important milestone of The Highland Park Historical Society’s 50th Anniversary. The exhibition concept was introduced by Rob Rotering, President of The Highland Park Historical Society and Highland Park City Councilwoman, Alyssa Knobel.
This exhibit is part of The Art Center-Highland Park’s (TAC) “Art in City Hall” outreach series, first introduced by Councilwoman Alyssa Knobel. “Art in City Hall exhibits have been a source of education, emotion and creative inspiration for residents and visitors” stated Councilwoman Alyssa Knobel who helped create the partnership in 2014. “The City is committed to promoting the power of cultural arts and celebrating our history. This collaborative exhibit is an innovative way to achieve these goals. We are grateful to have excellent partners in this endeavor.” Highland Park Historical Society President Rob Rotering stated, “We appreciate the opportunity to work with the City and TAC as we celebrate an important milestone, the 50th Anniversary of the Historical Society.” He continued, “Art has been integral to the foundation of Highland Park from the very beginning. Preserving, sharing and celebrating our story through art, strengthens our sense of place and creates a source of pride for our community.”
Mayor Nancy Rotering will speak at the Opening Reception on June 27th at 4:00pm. This exhibition is a collaboration between The City of Highland Park’s Cultural Arts Commission, The Highland Park Historical Society and The Art Center–Highland Park (TAC). This exhibit will take place at Highland Park’s historical City Hall.
