Highland Park Historical Society hosts on Tuesday April 1sth at 7 PM ‘What’s in a name?  The origin of place names in Lake County, Illinois” presented by Diana Dretske.  LakeCounty’s rich tapestry of history is woven into the very fibers of its place names. With over 500 place names associated with the county’s communities, lakes and rivers, this presentation will delve into the origins of many names in terms of the individuals and events that influenced them.

Author Diana Dretske is collections coordinator for the Lake County Discovery Museum in Wauconda, Illinois. She lectures extensively on local history and has written books on FortSheridan, LakeCountyand its place names and LakeCounty: An Illustrated History.  Diana Dretske will have a book signing after her presentation.  What’s in a Name? covers 540 names associated with the county’s communities, lakes and rivers. The illustrated guide reveals how the county’s history is woven into its place names.
