Create a Pop-Up Museum with the Highland Park Historical Society. We’ve all got fascinating things, but not everyone gets to show them off in a museum. This is your opportunity to bring objects to make a temporary exhibit. We will gather at the Highland Park Public Library on Monday March 19th at 7 PM to see your treasured artifact(s). Whether you an exhibitor or not, we need an audience to share our passion. Please feel welcome to mingle to see and chat with local exhibitors.
Illinois is celebrating its 200th anniversary of statehood this year and Highland Park will celebrate 150th anniversary in 2019. You may have something related to these anniversaries you may want to share. Many things can trigger memories or lead to the discovery of forgotten history or unique cultures and customs:
– A photo, letter, or postcard discovered in an old family album that re-opened childhood memories or revealed some remote family history.
– A unique flea market find that led you to research and discover culture and lifestyles of other times or places.
– A collection of “stuff” from your travels that you have grown to treasure. Perhaps a jaunt down Route 66 or 41 or 22 with all the idiosyncratic souvenirs.
– A hobby that has become a passion and has taught you something you’d like to share with others.
These are all treasures, not necessarily in the financial sense, but invaluable as historical artifacts or keys to a wealth of memories and learning.
If you have something you’d like to show, please call or email by March 18th. You are certainly welcome to share a story, too. Otherwise please come with your favorite and we will try to fit you in. After the formal presentations, there will be a reception to admire the various artifacts and chat with the owners.
Pop Up Museum will be at Highland Park Public Library Auditorium 494 Laurel Avenue, Highland Park, Illinois. For further information, please contact Catherine Lambrecht of the Highland Park Historical Society: 847.432.8209 or [email protected] Admission is free.
